Selecting Comfort Furniture For the Workplace
by Richard Winters
The goal is to select office furniture that lets your upper body be in the correct posture at the same time as you do your work. This will reduce harmful physical problems, such as being seated without the proper back and leg support.
Besides being physically uncomfortable, it is impossible to focus on the job at hand. The results of an uncomfortable posture are poor concentration, multiple errors, and eventually missing work to seek medical assistance. It is much more cost effective to purchase an ergonomically designed office chair rather than suffer the decline of your healthy body.
When selecting your desk, the surface work area is vital! If space is not an issue, a desk for working and a desk for the computer are preferred. Some desks with small surface areas can barely hold the computer monitor, the keyboard, the printer, a fax machine and a telephone! But, if having a second desk is not possible, organization is fundamental. A cabinet is crucial for organizing paperwork. With a good filing system you can categorize papers by importance or alphabetically, as long as it can be easily maintained.
Organization is key; filing cabinets, book shelves and office tables are all needed so that you can cut down on confusion and disorder with unkempt papers all around the office. Working in an organized environment is less challenging than working in turmoil. As a result, you won’t have to waste valuable time looking for misplaced paperwork and/or items of importance.
Another important feature would be lighting. A room that has the proper light gives off energy, and by contrast; a poorly lighted room gives you a peaceful, relaxed feeling. Although that would be soothing; in an office atmosphere, energized and productive would be best!
Remember, when selecting comfortable office furniture for your workplace to make sure it’s ergonomically designed, and you have the right size desk to do your job effectively. Then you can be productive, and you can be comfortable too!
