Oh, if only I had been born rich instead of beautiful…

But seriously, I need some new furniture for my living room. dining room, basement, etc, etc. How do people afford it?? I’m forced to confine my searches to Craigslist for a sectional or daybed frame for my new basement (we’re ready for drywall) and I hate to say this if you are listing there but most used sectionals are UUUUGGLY. They’ve got those weird looking pub flaps or pastel geometric patterns straight out of the early eighties. Ok, I feel like I might have just offended half of the users. (Sorry)
What I find mysterious is how my parents managed to buy nice upholstered furniture on a very modest income and I make something like 8X that amount and I’m looking for used stuff. See, this is what’s wrong with America in this day and age. For the amount of money I make, I should have a beautiful house, according to my late 70’s, early 80’s standards. But instead, I have to sock away a lot of money for my retirement in a 401K that is virtually worthless right now. And I have to think about college for my Brook. I have to pay outrageous energy costs to keep from freezing. And I have to pay for the mortgage on a modest townhouse in the burbs. When it’s all over, this professional in central NJ can’t afford THIS:

$2149?! When is deflation going to kick in??
But is instead forced to negotiate a best offer on THIS:

$300 is more my {{gulp!}} style.
Something just doesn’t feel right.
