I’m slowly getting my mind fixed on what I’ld like to do inside my house. I’m focusing on furnishing the inside first, so I’ll have a bit more ease to colorscheme wall textures.
I’ve got 3 rooms to furnish. That’s not much, but I’ve done oversize houses before, and I can tell you: it’s a bit sad to see that much space unused.
And since I’m a picky pain in the bum (yes, I know I am), I’ll probably drive myself nuts thinking about “finishing touches” ;)
So for now (to spare myself a bit cuz I’ve got several other projects going on all at the same time) I’ll just focus on finding some basic furnishings, some key items for each room.
I’ll place more decorative items later… if I’ll have the prims for it ;)
The big main room in the center will be the bedroom. I think I’ll keep the origin of the house design in mind and try to go for something Moroccan / Turkish / Arab / Persian. So besides a bed I’ll stuff it with some pillows, perhaps a cuddle chair or cuddle rug, perhaps some curtains.
Perfect for multiple “cuddle and slex areas” :p
(I’m still a guy, and I have needs)
Some shops I’ve enjoyed visiting so far, and probably will buy something to decorate my bedroom, are Melino Style and Sahara Design. Both shops focus on Moroccan / Arabian / Persian items.
Most of their items are (partially or completely) sculpted, so that’s a big plus if you ask me.
One tricky piece of key furniture for this room seems to be finding the type of bed I’ld really like: a wooden fourposter bed, not too ornate, preferably without curtains on the posts nor a canopy ceiling at the top.
There’s a lot of those out there, I know, but I always find something I dislike…
I know: I’m picky!
Besides the bedroom, I’ld like one room to be something modern or retro-modernist, I’ll probably “hide” it a bit behind a curtain.
Perhaps I’ll put something artistic in it and just rez a chair or 2… something “just for me and a good friend”. Sorta like the male version of a boudoir, just focusing more on art… yeah, sounds good imho :)
I already have a Barcelona Chair from Akeyo and I wanna “build around that”.
I also managed to get a really nice sofa set (a 2-seater and 1 male and 1 female animated single chair) at BAPFH.
Now I know: BAPFH remains one of “the biggest sellers” in-world, and I’m the kind of person that tries to “not be totally mainstream”. Usually I try to avoid shops where so many people already have spent their cash… (unless there’s a sale going on, then I’m unstopable!)
Anyway I ended up at BAPFH after seeing a picture on Flickr by Carmilla Mirabeau, showing the interior of her new place (the picture isn’t recent, it was uploaded a couple months ago).
The set wasn’t expensive at all and I have to admit they’re unquestionably well-sculpted and textured.
I’m not sure where I’ll use them, but I’ll find something.
Then there’s of course the small balcony outside, but I’m just gonna put 2 chairs there, perhaps place a couple plants and if possible hang the Magic Moods Lantern that I already have (“if possible” cuz for the pretty item that it is, it’s a dreadfully heavy-prim thing: about 70 prims… which is much for 1 single lantern).
Anyway, I’ve got a list of possible key objects, and I’m slowly managing to find stores selling them. I’m taking my time for it and search for one style at a time, trying to visit all the Classifieds tab comes up with.
My only non-negotiable criteria is: whatever object I choose to place in the house, it’ll have to be low prim.
I have a reserve in the back of my head that I wanna use for my shop, and another reserve for some minor landscaping, so the rest is for furniture prims. It’ll be tight, but not impossible if I check what’s out there and choose very wisely.
The elimination process of course is the hardest part: when you find that handful of good shops amongst “the rest”, you need to go back and make up your mind about which shop has an item closest to what you’re looking for, in the least amount of prims.
Remember that I’m fully aware of just how picky I am?
(perhaps I should demolish everything and build a Zen house to achieve “peace of mind”?)
;)
So, let’s recap:
- the big bedroom will be Persian-ish
- the “more private” of the 2 side rooms will be a modern-ish lounge area (like a boudoir, but more masculine)
- no clue yet what to do with the other, “more public”, side room, the one you enter after coming into the house… sitting area to let those who come visit me have a seat?
- keep the balcony nice and simple, rez a couple chairs there and some plants… maybe those BAPFH chairs would work here… will consider it
More updates as I make progress!
