in jersey shopping for furniture. the internet is my home depot.
thanks in large part to my mom’s persistence, we closed this past thursday. but it wasn’t just any thursday. it was 08.28.2008, which, my mom notes, is even better than 08.08.08 because it’s – use your imagination – 08 08 08 08 08.
my parents have been feeling extra lucky these days — in addition to the apartment closing, my mom got a fortune cookie message that said opportunity was knocking on her door. they considered buying a lottery ticket, but due to one part realism and one part laziness, they opted out. “we make our own luck.”
this weekend has also been particularly spectacular because it’s labor day weekend and what better way to push products than loosely coupling national holidays with massive discounts. one thing that i never thought about until kei brought it up was, why do B2C companies close during those holidays? doesn’t staying open ensure a competitive edge? what kind of pseudo/quasi-capitalists are we?!
then again, i’m not one to question a good thing. i bought three core essentials today:
1. Mattress & box spring: anyone who’s slept in my bed knows i like it rough.
ha!
i bought a Sealy Posturepedic “Coastlight” Firm Mattress & box spring and these are the reasons i know it’s the perfect mattress for my delicate physique:
a. on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being the hardest, 5 being the softest), macy’s rates this mattress a 1;
b. “it’s got great support”; and
c. my preferences (“the hardest you’ve got!”) prompted Saleswoman Nadine to say, “I don’t usually get that kind of request.”
2. tv console: it’s one i’ve wanted for a while because it’s so pretty! and now it’s back in stock! and has a glass front! wahoo!
3. book shelf: wahhh i really like it. supa like it.
no pictures for obvious reasons. i need leverage so you — yes, you! — will come to my housewarming!
