As you would know by now if you read this blog regularly, design authenticity and unlicensed replica furniture is a subject we take very seriously. However we couldn’t help but have a chuckle at this thread at designaddict, check out the monstrosities below. The terrible thing is that people may actually buy this furniture thinking they were purchasing a design classic… what would Charles and Ray think? It’s an interesting discussion, with many more examples than I’ve shown below – here’s the link.
Growing up, my mom was sure to deck my room fit for a princess. We didn’t have a ton of money, so I know what a sacrifice it was for her to purchase the whole brand new Bassett bedroom furniture set with a full-size canopy bed, a dresser with vanity, a chest, a night stand and a desk and extension with bookcase hutches.
Naturally, it would have broken her heart if I a.) gave it away, b.) sold it, or c.) put it in storage or d.) anything just to get rid of it because my darling MASCULINE husband would never use the princess bedroom set with me, and NEVER sleep in my frilly canopy bed.
So, while the bed IS in the attic, the night stand, dresser and chest are still being put to use. I tried to make the desk and hutch work in the living room as a real adult office desk, but that did NOT work. Let’s just say: Clutter. Distractions. Clutter. Crap.
So me says to meself, how does one recycle GREAT quality furniture without just getting rid of it thus insulting mommy dearest? That’s right my friends, I tried to think of the piece of furniture I was lacking and how I could make this function as such. I just happened to be missing a buffet and china cabinet. I had nowhere ideal for my wine glasses, vases and crystal.
Check it out. A snow white former desk glistening doorlessly with glasses all showing off their twinkly prettiness. Just heavenly.
This is the introduction to my project – I plan on replacing the handles with uber unique drawer pulls and knobs. For this, I’m looking to Te-Ma. You can count on me picking one of each – they’re all way too gorgeous to choose only one!
I’ll explore Te-Ma with its own post after I place the order for some knobs and see how they look on the ol’ girl.

We decided to take a little drive and journey out to Greensboro, GA on Saturday morning. The trip started out just dandy. We made a pit stop at RaceTrac to get some Coke icees. Boy, do they have the best drink selection EVER!!
I guess the combination of the curvy roads, one small kit kat and a few sips of the icee drink didn’t really mix so well. Let’s just say as soon as I got out of the car in Greensboro I christened my new jeans with a bit of that mixture. I rarely throw up so it was just great that I managed to get some on the hem of my jeans and one shoe. :(
But as soon as that bout o’ sickness was over I felt fine so we looked around downtown Greensboro for a bit. We had gone there in search of some pieces of furniture for little man’s room. There are several antique stores there as well as some boutiques. We didn’t end up buying anything but we did stumble upon one little gem of a store. It is called Pinch of the Past. Pinch of the Past is a architectural antique store with one location in Greensboro and one in Savannah. The store in Greensboro is housed in an 1880s railroad warehouse and water tower. The store would be a gold mine for anyone fixing up a really old house here in the South. They had old fireplace surrounds, tons of old hardware, paneling, beams, knobs and pulls, windows, doors, columns, tin ceiling tiles, sconces, claw footed bathtubs, ironwork and so many more things that I can’t even remember right now. They also has some furniture and other general antiques. Hubs and I would love to own a house some day that would require us to be on the lookout for all the salvaged materials we saw today. We didn’t buy anything but it sure was fun to have a look around. We were interested in this ginormous neat old Dr. Pepper sign but it was the one thing there that was not for sale. OF COURSE!! :)
For those of us in the southern hemisphere, we are now unpacking our cotton clothing, dusting off our outdoor chairs and blowing the cobwebs from sun umbrellas. My sun umbrella didn’t make it through this year as I left it open on what turned out to be the type of day that a roof gets blown off. My replacement will be a 1960s/1970s style black and white umbrella which brings back memories of growing up and the graphic print of my mum’s swimsuit mirroring the print on this umbrella. http://www.vividshop.com.au/p/642499/beach-umbrella-black-white.html
The gorgeous green dress is the november group gift from Angel’s Kiss. Teleport to the store, join the group and touch the box. As a group member, you can rez the box at the store.
The cool animated pose is from the new Baiastice gift box.

If you like the furniture in the background, you can buy it at Rebel Hope Woodshed. It isn’t free, of course.
