Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

If your looking for a wow factor riad to stay in here in Marrakech you can’t get better than Riad Zam Zam. The newly opened (and fully booked since opening) super deluxe design led boutique hotel is welcoming guests to the Marrakech Medina in style with sumptuous surroundings, fantastic service and deco that lists some of Marrakech’s top designers and has been sourced from some of the worlds greatest cities. By the globe trotting designers of Riad Zam Zam.

Come with me for an exclusive tour and see Riad Zam Zam for yourself.

Riad Zam Zam was the dream of Marcus and Emma Joyston-Bechal who moved to Marrakech almost 3 years ago, they spent a long time searching for the perfect location to start their boutique hotel and having considered the notion of building a Maison d’hotes outside of Marrakech they wisely opted for a riad in the in the heart of the atmospheric ancient souk. The Medina is the place to be when visiting Marrakech and Riad Zam Zam its just a stones throw from all the action that Marrakech has to offer.

Riad Zam Zam is nestled in one of the most ancient parts of the Marrakech Medina, this though did not deter the couple in their determination to renovate this beautiful old building. Marcus had plenty of experience in construction having worked as an engineer in London this kind of challenge was exactly what he was looking for. After just 8 months of hard, hard work the building was ready for Emma to take on the job of interior designer.

And look how beautiful it is……..

Emma’s style draws on her childhood experiences of being raised in Africa and England, she blends her Notting Hill style perfectly with her African past. Funky Fabrics and African wood cravings all work well with her clever furnishing finds amongst the Parisian antique shops, and of course the designer pieces that she has invested in here in Marrakech to give Riad Zam Zam that luxury Moroccan touch.

Riad Zam Zam has a total of seven rooms for you to chose from, here are some of the suites….

The Hagar suite umm …..love the South African JuJu hat wall decor, such a shame my photo doesn’t do it justice the colour of the feathers would put any peacock to shame!

Marcus has lovingly designed all of these streamlined en suite bathrooms using tadelakt and marble.

I love the Rose Suite, so calm and tranquil, did you know that Emma sells those beautiful Beni Oruarain Rugs?

Did you see that romantic bath with the two little love seats and the niches to rest your champagne glasses?

(Dont forget you can click on the images to see all the gorgeous details.)

Then up stairs…….

Have you noticed how Marcus and Emma have had Yahya design most of their lighting?

Truly a sign of a deluxe boutique hotel if Yahya does your lighting, after all he will only work on the very best projects.

The Berber Suite in Pistache and plasterwork ceiling is beautiful…….

But the very best part of this rooms design is this funky tiled floor.

I could go on forever taking photos of all the hard work this couple have put into Riad Zam Zam to make your stay here in Marrakech as luxey as poss.

Gorilla Glue (part 2)

Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

Is it so strange to be  so excited over a bottle of Gorilla glue?  Somehow the feeling that the Gorilla glue is just an arms reach away can be a good cover up for the “Oh- crap- I- just -broke- something” feeling.

But Gorilla Glue is just like everything else in life- nothing is perfect. I guess the beauty is in the eye of the one that does the gluing.  I have heard and experienced many things about Gorilla glue- some good and some not so good. But there is still hope- Gorilla glue has a whole new line of products on the market , and my goal is to try them all.

Gorilla tape works  better than duct tape- and I mean it  really works !!  We used it to tape down some  wires on the floor. The other black tape didn’t do the job anymore- so sadly it had to be replaced. The double thick adhesive in Gorilla tape sticks wherever it is put. It is super sticky and it fills in all the gaps- it’s pretty aggressive actually.  The backing of the tape is really tough- I had a hard time trying to rip it, but I managed.  We have driven over the tape with our furniture dollies ,and the tape is still there. It  has not shown signs of wear and tear.  I was very impressed with the Gorilla tape. The roll is still sitting there on the desk waiting for an opportunity to be used again.

I have only had  experience with the normal Gorilla Glue.  The new and  unlimited possibilies of Gorilla  wood glue, super glue, and the new on the go precision pen have aroused my curiosity ,and I have got to try them all.   Imagine that- a pen of Gorilla Glue that you can carry in your pocket! The super glue looks to me the least complicated. No need to apply pressure or clamps just squeeze and go- or not? I will try it out and let you  know.

I have watched over and over again the process of gluing a broken chair leg or a broken drawer.  It aways looked to me a little bit complicated. Gluing with Gorilla glue is a delicate process.  The glue must not be over applied and the excess must be cleaned off right away. If the glue is over applied  it will be a big blob of hard foam when it is dry.  Pressure must be applied (- so in this case pressure is good-)  with a clamp and then it has to sit for a long time to dry.   If the gluing process is done with great care then Gorilla glue is a wonderful thing.  I think that Gorilla glue is not such of  good thing for people that are in a hurry – BIG TROUBLE.

I was quite frustrated with the bottle of Gorilla glue on the desk-somehow it didn’t work so good for my project.  I  applied too much glue and  I didn’t clean it  up right away, I didn’t apply enough pressure, and when it dried it expanded about five times the normal size.  Then  again maybe it didn’t work because I was in a hurry. Maybe I should give it another chance,  or maybe I should take the esay way out and try the wood or  super glue. This is my next project- But I’m not yet that far.

Dahaus Modern Furniture

Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

Dahaus Modern Furniture is a store that had slipped under my radar until very recently, and now I’m very glad I’ve found it. It was the recent grid wide ghost hunt that caused me to come across this store in the first place. I was in a bit of a hurry that day, but saved a landmark with plans to come back and look around more when I had time. A couple of days later, I found myself back at Dahaus once again for yet another grid wide hunt. Daedalus Brink was very generous by participating in two hunts so close together. When I was here the second time for the pumpkin hunt, I noticed a really neat painters pallette and easel set that really caught my interest. As an SL artist, I had been thinking about getting an easel and maybe some drop cloth and putting together a little studio when I owned a home. But I hadn’t seen a paint pallette anywhere before. I love how the set looks, and Daedalus did a great job with the little tubes of paint and the paintbrushes in the glass of water. Each part of the set is sold individually, so you can get whichever pieces you want. I just had to buy the paintset and pallette. Even though I don’t have anywhere to put them right now, I have not seen these anywhere in world so I wanted to make sure to get them while I can. And the price is very affordable. The tube of paint is only $30L and the pallette and glass of paintbrushes are only $50L each. Another thing I’d like to mention is that you will find a lot of low prim, sculptie furniture here. The painter’s table and easel are among them, at only 2 prims each!

After noticing the painters set, I mostly lost interest in the hunt I was on and started to explore the store in more detail. I love sculptie furniture, because its usually a good way to have some very nice looking and yet low prim options for your home. Daedalus makes great use of it here, with a lot of his work. Not all of his furniture is sculptie, but a lot of pieces are. One exceptional example of this is the layered, rectangular level coffee table. It appears to have multiple shelves, and by looking at it, you would think that it contains at least 6-8 prims. If not more. But since this is a sculptie table, it only consists of two. Including the shadow underneath!

Using low prim furniture is a good way to free up extra prims to be able to decorate and accessorize your home. This three prim tv and shelving unit has plenty of extra space for that.

I’m very impressed with the level of detail in a lot of the home accents, here. Of particular interest to me was this weave chest, and matching rug ball and weave vases.

I always have had a fondness for art deco style furniture, so I really like the red and black bedroom set by Trix Noel. The bed is fully equipped with more animations than I could possibly count, and the matching lounge has several single and cuddle poses as well.

I just love standing floor lamps, but especially if they are made in a modern/art deco style. This tube lamp is just perfect- I like the curves and the way the lamps face in different directions. This is just the sort of lamp I’d like to have in my home, in real life. I also love the hanging cushion display behind it, suspended in the center of the store.

This store is just perfect for people who are have a very low prim limit in their homes, or who are just starting out. Most of the items here are quite low in prim, and extremely affordable. There are also a few free items in the store, if you know where to look. But rather than point them out, I’ll leave it to the readers to come and discover them for yourselves. Happy hunting!
