Furniture can be a product of artistic design and is considered a form of decorative art. In addition to furniture’s functional role, it can serve a symbolic or religious purpose. Domestic furniture works to create, in conjunction with furnishings such as clocks and lighting, comfortable and convenient interior spaces. Furniture can be made from many materials, including metal, plastic, and wood. Furniture can be made using a variety of woodworking joints which often reflect the local culture.

I forgot to take a ‘before’ picture but I was fortunate enough to get a little upholstered stool on freecycle yesterday. It is grey with grey velour cushioning. One hour’s naptime (the kids…not me) enable me to recover the cushion with ‘carrots and peas’ retroish fabric and it looks great. I want to paint the wooden bit cream but that will have to wait till either the weekend or when we move (depending on weather and stocks of paint currently in the garage!). I’ll take a halfway there picture of edit this post in a bit…food comes first.

Michelle from Pretty Old Furniture contacted Design Heaven recently in the hope we would spread the word about her new venture. Michelle has been learning the craft of furniture restoration and upholstery for the last 7 months and feels ready to share her furniture with the rest of us. She likes to add a modern twist to her vintage finds. In Michelle’s own words ‘I love buying up old pieces and restyling them to add a bit of colour and funk them up.’
You can find Michelle in Blackrock Markets for the next 2 weekends then she will hopefully be offering a web service with a small number of pieces at good prices.
Prices range from 150 euro to 700 euro. All her pieces are genuine vintage and restored to the highest quality. Good Luck Michelle!! Here are some samples of her fab work. My personal favourite is the white display cabinet.

I had never heard of Anthropologie before I started blogging. I’d never been in one of their stores, never would have recognized their stylish frocks if worn by someone I know. But for some reason, it seems like everyone in the blogiverse writes about them and owns 100 of their adorable dresses. They are SO out of my price range- I rarely spend over $30 on a top, $50 max on pants, and $100 max on a dress, depending on the occasion. I don’t want to call myself cheap, because that sounds negative… let’s just say I’m thrifty. I just can’t justify spending ridiculous amounts of money on clothes… Furniture is a different story. :)

I have a love/hate relationship with anthropologie as I know I will probably never own anything from there… but it sure is fun to look! Is it weird that I’ve been so drawn to items that are in my wedding color scheme? Come to think of it, we could work with that… I mean, how cute is this pic?

I really love the idea of having furniture outside for a reception. It’s kind of funky, the contrast and unusualness of it. I would totally rock these yellow chairs, they make for such a fun pic!
My mind is all over the place this morning. Is it Friday yet?
