NORTH HAVEN – After four years of going without furniture in three upstairs office suites in their headquarters, the North Haven Police Department has recently purchased the furnishings that will fill them.
The furnishings, which will have been installed by Friday, include three sets of desks and chairs, and wiring for a new phone system. Without the furniture, the three office suites had been vacant, according to police, with the exception of some department records.

The new desks and chairs will allow Police Chief James X. DiCarlo, Deputy Chief Thomas J. McLoughlin, and their secretary to move upstairs into these suites – which are significantly larger than the space the administration previously occupied.

“We’re happy we are going to be able to expand upstairs,” said DiCarlo. With the new furniture, “it’s going to be a lot more functional. My new office will be twice the size of my old one, and the secretary’s office will be roughly three times the size,” he continued. The furniture was funded through a $20,000 capital appropriation in this year’s budget.

When asked why it had taken four years to acquire funding for the desks, DiCarlo referenced hang-ups in the $750,000 renovation to the building four years ago.
