Essential Advice to Keep All Your Furniture Looking Great

Leather Surfaces
The methods you will use to clean leather depend on whether the material has been treated with a coating to protect it. If not, there are very few options for cleaning this furniture. Never use soap, water, leather creams, or any other type of cleaning product. Instead, dust the material frequently. Because uncoated leather is so hard to clean, and stains often cannot be removed, it may be better to purchase a couch or chair that is coated. In this case, you can use a mild soap mixed with water to remove dirt. Be sure to wipe the soap off the surface and dry the leather right away. Leather cream should be used only a few times a year. As with uncoated leather, no harsh or chemically-based cleaners should be used.
Wood Furniture
Aside from leather, wood is perhaps the most sensitive to damage and staining. Water can be especially harmful to oiled and varnished wood, so if you must use water to clean a spill, ensure that you thoroughly dry the surface right away. The best way to keep wood clean, aside from regular dusting, is by using a polish that is suitable for the type of finish on the furniture, so find out whether the finish is soft, hard, or painted at the time of purchase. For furniture that is not used on a regular basis, it is only necessary to apply polish three or four times a year. Polish should be wiped from the surface before it dries to prevent buildup. If the furniture gets heavy use, it may be necessary to polish more often, and it is recommended that the same type of polish be used each time.
Outdoor Furniture
If you decide to leave your outdoor furniture outside or in a garage during the winter months, spring usually calls for some heavy duty cleaning. For surfaces like cloth chair covers, apply a mixture of dish detergent, Borax, and hydrogen peroxide (if suitable), and water, then scrub the surface before rinsing. Rusted metal surfaces can either be treated with a rust remover or sanded and repainted. Plastics can usually simply be cleaned with a mixture of mild soap and water.
Upholstered Furniture
For regular maintenance, it is recommended that upholstered surfaces be vacuumed and brushed on a weekly basis. To clean stains and upholstered surfaces, the solution you choose should be mild and suitable for the type of fabric you will be cleaning. Apply the cleaner with a brush or damp cloth and remove promptly-usually a minute or two is enough to clean areas that are not stained. The furniture will be somewhat wet, so turn on a fan or open some windows to ensure prompt drying.
Woven Furniture
Furniture made out of natural materials like bamboo is attractive, but many wicker furniture pieces are also very delicate. To clean these surfaces, they can be dusted, wiped with a small amount of water and mild soap, or vacuumed. Many are reluctant to get wicker wet, but the pieces can also occasionally be sprayed down, as long as they are dried with a towel right away and left outside or in a well-ventilated area until completely dry.

To Preserve and Protect

Do some people still leave the plastic covers on their sofas, chairs, and car seats?

I haven’t seen that for a while.

I always wondered what the point was because really …

they should put another sheet of plastic over the plastic cover to protect that!

note: I take very good care of my bookcases. I’m into “shelf preservation“. It’s a natural instinct I hear.

double note: John Travolta just got shitty after “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble“.

triple note: a lifetime of loneliness or one day of love with Glynnis O’Connor?  Decisions, decisions!!

Daybeds of Our Lives

Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

(Narrator)    Previously on Daybeds of Our Lives. Raul Recliner was last seen trying to share stuffing with Lacey Loveseat. After a few glasses of Fabreeze, slip covers began to loosen when Scotty Sofa walked in.

(Raul)          Oh, Lacey has anyone ever told you how plump and comfortable you are. You’re stuffing is so soft, and you’re fabric, Dios Mio!

(Lacey)        Oh my, Raul, I don’t know if we should be doing this. You know I am with Scotty Sofa. We just go so well together and provide ample seating. You and me, we don’t make sense, a Loveseat and a Recliner, the world would never get us.

(Raul)          But, Lacey, don’t you know that you have me rocking back and forth every day. I do not know a day that has gone by that I have not thought about you or tried to get your attention in some way. Tell me you don’t notice when I recline and extend my leg rest…

(Lacey)        I see it every day. You drive my throw pillows wild. But what about Scotty?

(Raul)          Scotty is of no matter. Only you and me matter right now. Besides, where is this Scotty now? He is not there for you when I am. He does not care for you as I do.

(Lacey)        Scotty got tied up at work; the male human accidentally fell asleep on him while watching Talia Television.

(Raul)          If he truly loved you, he would wake up the human and come be with you. Come to me, and let us share this slip cover…

(Lacey)        Oh, Raul……

In comes Scotty Sofa

(Scotty)       (with angst and rage in his voice) Lacey! Raul! What in the Living Room is going on here?

(Lacey)        (surprised and stumbling) Scotty! This isn’t what it looks like. I was just, I mean we were just… I couldn’t help myself.

(Raul)          Now wait just one second Scotty. Let’s all be reasonable.

(Scotty)       Raul, you shut your leather lips. You are supposed to be my best friend, and I find you going after my Loveseat.
And you, Lacey, the supposed love of my life and now it’s over. I don’t want to look at you two again.

(Raul)          Scotty, you leave this poor Loveseat all alone, while you work long hours. How do you explain yourself? If you loved her you would be with her right now.

(Scotty)       Well here it is. I have been working late, night after night, because I wanted to talk to Lacey about starting a living room. I was hoping we could have little ottomans. But now…

Exit Scotty

(Lacey)        Oh, Scotty…(begins to cry and softly says) I had no idea you felt that way.
(Raul)          (comforting Lacey) There, there. He’s gone now. I’m here to take care of you.

(Narrator)    Next time, on Daybeds of Our Lives. How is Scotty Sofa coping (shot of Scotty sulking and a man unsuccessfully trying to get comfortable on the couch)? Has he lost the will to work?
Also, is Lacey truly happy with Raul? (shot of Lacey talking to Chelsea Chaiselounge)

(Chelsea)     So, Lacey, what’s up with you and Raul? It seems pretty hot and heavy.

(Lacey)        Raul is great. I just don’t know if…

(Narrator)    And is Raul shopping around…? (shot of Raul whispering with Robert Rockingchair)

(Raul)          Hey, Robbie, who are these chicas outside on the patio? They look hot, and I’m not talking about the summer heat.

(Narrator)    All this and more on the next installment of, Daybeds of Our Lives.

MMMM….Guilty Pleasures

Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

Like any other girl that I know, I also LOVE to shop.  This move has just created another outlet for me to do so.  I think that shopping for furniture and house decor is my guilty pleasure-well, besides my secret Britney Spears cd  that I bust out on long road trips.

So today I pimped out Mine and Jonathan’s new bedroom and apartment, from all new bedding, sheets, pillows, shams, bolster pillows…to our special need to have it, doggie accident steam vac.  I also rocked a few picture frames to put all the artwork that I have collected from country to country and can now frame.  I also got some new kitchen stuff, that even though I am not a cook-Jonathan can use.

So thank you Linens N’ Things for going bankrupt and closing your store at earth shattering prices-I mean someone has to enable my addiction…it might as well have been you.
