Adam & Jenny’s house

We just got back from Boston for Adam & Jenny’s wedding and were totally in awe of their house. Adam’s always done a lot of woodworking, but his skill’s raised a few notches from carving pipes in college, to now handcrafting Crate & Barrel level furniture. The wood art, green computer desk, veggie tray, and orange kitchen shelf are all his handiwork.

It was a nice reminder that you don’t have to buy expensive furniture to make your house look nice. You can do things DIY and keep them looking classy.

Goodbye to the Beloved Lazyboy…

Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

Well, the time has finally come.  We held on as long as we could.  We squeezed as much life as possible out of our beloved recliner.  But sadly, her life is over.

We have had this recliner since we were married (8 years ago).  For a very short period of time before we had her, she was my dad’s.

When I was 18 and in college, my dad was diagnosed with Brain Cancer.  After a few short months, he passed away.  He was normally not a very loving man.  He didn’t show emotion, and had a difficult time showing love to us as children.  But when he was sick with his tumor, I had the opportunity to spend some precious time with him.  I stayed with him for my Christmas break that first year in college.  I can remember one evening when I came home, he was sitting in that recliner, and he asked me to come sit on his lap.  We just sat there and cuddled for a very long time.  It was a rare thing for him to do something like that, but it was very special, and it was a great reminder that he did love me very much, even though he was normally terrible at showing it!

After he passed away, that recliner, and everything else in his home, became my sister’s and mine.  The recliner stayed in storage until Jared and I were married and then we moved her into our first apartment together.  Jared became quickly attached along with other family and friends who sat in the chair.  She has been the rocker of our 2 precious babies. There were even several nights when Zoe was a newborn and she would keep me up to all hours of the night refusing to sleep.  I would rock her to sleep in that chair, recline it, and just slept right there with her in the recliner.  Our beloved recliner has endured countless moves.  Countless.  And now it is time for us to part with her.  We are sad to see her go.  But she is worn and tired.

We placed her out at the curb since the large item trash pick-up comes by this week.  Maybe someone else will take her home before then and reupholster her.   Maybe not.  For the time we had her she was well-loved, and very well-used, and now it is time for us to say good-bye!!
