Mobilier Steven Holl – Riddled Cabinet

Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

Vider Screen by Mark Jan Meerdink

Screens can be a quick and easy solution to dividing an open plan room. And when you want to open up the room again simply fold them away. Or roll them up. I love the Vider Screen by Mark Jan Meerdink – it is so shiny and glamous.

Mark runs his own design company, Winoldi out of Rotterdam. Uk stockist is a company called Within 4 Walls.

Happy Canada Day! | Local fire bemuses everyone

Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day, everyone! It’s been sunny, hot, and politely patriotic here in tropical Montreal.

the island of Montreal

We had delicious breakfast at a local Greek-owned, British-named, randomly-themed cafe, then wandered east to a local park in Westmount, the rich Anglo area of Montreal (we live west in NDG,  the Anglo ghetto, but in the multicultural section of that ghetto … shared languages? we don’t need no stinkin’ shared languages!).

While on our way home via bus, we stopped at a local used bookstore and noticed an apartment fire starting next door. It looked pretty casual … the “victim” even scooted back inside to wave at the firefighters because nobody could figure out exactly which apartment the fire was in, or then how to get to it. Most buildings are shoulder-to-shoulder, with apartments above and shops below, and apartment entrances could be anywhere along the block. It looks like nobody was injured, or even particularly distressed, and that the fire was smoky and damaging, but not hellishly aflame. Here’s what it looked like before we wandered off, with everything under control:side of building, generally smoky

smoke out back

Canadian fire truck, eh?

Canadian fire fighters are so placid....

laying hoses amidst billowing smoke

billowing smoke ... everyone escaped safely and the fire fighters moved in

Kitchen Seating

Yep, I’ve had something pretty much exactly like this in mind for awhile now! Considering everyone gathers in the kitchen to chat and hang out, why not make it almost as comfortable as the living room?

Our kitchen right now just serves one purpose: to cook and store dishes and food. We have a table and chairs set up but it’s not inviting whatsoever! And it makes me want to scream!

I’m going to hunt around the Ikea website now and see if I can find something there too. Love that store!
