I am a bit of a craigslist junkie. From end tables to temporary roommates to organ lessons, no request is too inconsequential for the regional wonder that is www.stlouis.craigslist.com. Not that buying or bartering always goes off without a hitch – I could regail you with the story of the roommate who came home with 35 bananas and 1 loaf of bread from the grocery store on a Wednesday, only to have them consumed by the following Saturday…or the time I didn’t realize my mute roommate was Russian (or not mute for that matter) until hearing her curse her academic advisor on the phone…but with the success stories far outweighing the “wait’ll you hear this!” experiences, I’d have to say that having the entire St. Louis region as your own personal thrift store is the best thing that’s ever happened to my interior decor (both material and human).

In my view, “tasteful” is not a synonym for “overly-cautious”. One of the benefits of an overall simplicity of style is the “ka-pow!” that a terrific decorative item can bring to the mixture.

I am entranced by the thought of placing this in a dim dining room, surrounded by stone walls in taupe tones with plenty of candlelight. This is the kind of design that could create a focal point and color scheme for an entire room.
