Rearranging

Posted By: Furniture Reporter  //  Category: News

The other day, Memorial Day to be exact, I got this crazy idea to rearrange the bedroom furniture.  I did what every good husband should do, I ask my wife if I could.  With her approval I took some simple but important steps.

  1.  I took an inventory of what I had.  There is a basic truth that before you know where you want to go, you must first know where you are.  Evaluation and inventory is not fun.  It can be very painful but it is necessary to move into the right direction of your destination.
  2. I visualized what the room would look like when I was done.
  3. I created a plan on what items I would move and what procedure I would move them.  Simple is good because furniture can be heavy.  A Simple Plan is the best plan.
  4. I started moving.

After cleaning behind the dresser, under the bed, and getting the cable hooked back up to the new location for the TV, it turned out pretty good.  The only problem now is getting used to waking up and seeing a different wall.  But hey, different is good.  I see my room from a different perspective.

Have any dreams?  Evaluate, make plans and start moving to reach your dreams.  Rearrange a few things!!!

Aren’t these beautiful?

French designer Stephanie Marin has created wonderfully tactile ‘stones’ as modular seating, bringing the outdoors in and turning living spaces into playful, serene cocoons of relaxation.

From 15cm to 2m wide, Livingstones are available in a range of natural earthy colours for both indoor and outdoor use. At around USD$128 for the 30cm stone, I’ll have to be content with admiring them from afar, but if you’re interested they are available to purchase from Olozoo.

Check out the full range at Livingstones.

Sitting on your trash

I came across these whimsical shopping cart chairs and a whole mess of other cool shit via a Popular Fidelity link to this dense and entertaining WebUrbanist post entitled “20 Eye-Catching Pieces of ‘Recycled’ Urban Furniture:  Geeky and Green Adaptive Reuse Projects”.  I’m not sure I want to perpetuate a term like “adaptive resuse,” but I do want to spread the word about these artful and functional trash creations.  Aside from what’s pictured here, my favorite are the couch made from an old bathtub and the abstract coffee tables made from bent bike tires.

Process picture… countertops set up and polished.

Here are some casts… farther along in the process.

The sink and return counter to the stove, polished with back splashes.

A small left side of stove counter with back splashes.

A detail of the sink cut out and faucet holes.

There were existing surface mounted water pipes we had to cast a channel in the back sides of the back splash for… turned out pretty cool!
