Hello Penguins!!
In my last post I forgot to say there are some items rockhopper brought. One is a bowl for funiture(members only), there is a free red and black striped shirt.
It’s cleaning day. You’ve washed the windows, vacuumed and mopped the floors, and scrubbed the bathroom from top to bottom. Are you forgetting something? With all that you have to do to keep your house clean, it’s sometimes easy to forget about the furniture, but dirt, dust, and odors can settle into these surfaces too. However, with a little knowledge, cleaning your upholstery, wood, and wicker furniture doesn’t have to be a chore.
If you have upholstered furniture, it should be vacuumed regularly. Leather can also be treated with creams periodically to keep it looking great and to protect it from excessive soiling and damage. For furniture that is upholstered in fabric, deep cleaning is also essential because vacuuming cannot remove the grime that has become deeply-embedded in the material over time. When you schedule your yearly carpet cleaning, why not get us to handle your furniture as well? After all, what’s the point of having great-looking carpets if the rest of the room isn’t exactly sparking?
Wood furniture provides a rustic and timeless look in many homes. Unfortunately, cleaning it can be somewhat tricky because different types of wood finishes call for different cleaning methods. Loose dust from all types of wood furniture can be gently vacuumed away. To really keep your wood looking like new, however, polishing is essential. Use a good quality polish that is suited to the type of finish on the wood, whether it is a hard, soft, or painted finish. Perhaps the most common mistake when it comes to polishing wood furniture is overdoing it. Most pieces do not have to be done more than a few times a year, so resist the urge to polish that table every time you tidy up the living room.
Wicker furniture looks great in almost any décor, but cleaning it can be risky. Loose dust can be removed by gently vacuuming the surfaces and any crevices. Water can be used to clean wicker furniture, but great care must be taken. Use a cloth dampened with a mixture of mild dish detergent and water, and wipe down the wicker surfaces, taking care not to get wooden parts of the piece wet. A more thorough cleaning with this same mixture can also be done. About once a year, a solution of mild detergent and water can be applied, and the furniture can be completely hosed down. If you decide to do this, however, make sure that you will be able to dry the chair or other piece quickly be setting it out in the sun, using a hairdryer, or placing it in a well-ventilated room. Wicker that stays wet for too long can quickly become irreparably damaged.
To have a home that is attractive and enjoyable to live in, cleaning every part of it, including the furniture, is essential. For many types of furniture, including upholstery, it is usually best to call a professional cleaning company. However, you can easily take care of wood and wicker furniture yourself with some polish, water, and mild detergent.

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. (Proverbs 24:3-4)
JT and I have new bedroom furniture! After nearly 6 years of marriage, we finally bid farewell to our hodge-podge bedroom furniture. Though mix and match and shabby chic may be popular themes on HGTV, neither theme was working well in our bedroom!
The former bedroom “set” (and I use the word ‘set’ very, very loosely) was a not so harmonious mix of JT’s bachelor days and my bachelorette days. The pieces were functional but were a variety of colors, sizes, and styles that did not compliment one another. Our new matching bedroom set is dark walnut and features a gorgeous sleigh bed, a tall chest of drawers, a wide mirrored dresser, and a matching nightstand. (An added bonus is that the new bed is too high for Sweet Pea to climb up onto!)
In addition to the bedroom set, we also purchased a large comfortable chair. This chair is my favorite part of the bedroom! It’s the perfect place to curl up with a great book or snuggle with my honey. However, whenever I’m hanging out in my favorite chair, I’m usually on my laptop planning our weekly menus, chatting with the gals on my favorite forums, surfing the internet, or working on my current writing project.
If you ask JT what I’m doing while lounging in my chair, he may share a different opinion. He thinks I’m up there quietly doing some online shopping. This may or may not be true. On occasion, my browser may have been pointed towards…

No matter how we spend time in our bedroom, JT and I love our new furniture. We’re on our way to creating the perfect retreat just for us!
I have just spent the last hour cleaning out the conservatory, I had to move out the conservatory furniture and sweep out the winter dust, after an hour of cleaning it looks like new and I am very pleased with the result. I bought a couple of new small tables to place in this room as I do spend a fair bit of time here. The windows need a good clean both inside and out but the plants here, a couple of rubber plants a really big Yukka are healthy and seem to love this area.
My next step will out on the small patio, I need to get rid of the winter grunge between the flags but will need a hand to move the patio furniture, it is one of those moziac heavy cast sets and I do not want to damage it moving it myself, I have a little steam cleaner that I have used a few times on the patio slabs and it works great, it was not dear but I can not remember where I got it from (probably a local DIY), once the patio is in order my next challenge will be the lawn and flower beds.
